What Is My Lightsaber Color?
You can find lots and lots of different questionnaires testing your knowledge of the lore or telling your Star Wars personality. This one is neither! This one will tell the color of your lightsaber! Fascinating, isn't it?
Lightsaber Color Meaning
So far, there are eight canon lightsaber colors shown throughout the franchise (plus the games' new addition: cyan, indigo, and magenta that are too young to enter the canon yet). Some of them are definitely more mainstream. Specifically those ones we see in the trilogies. Especially the original one. And they are blue, green, red, and purple. Granted they are the most widespread in the universe.
The other five colors are rarer. We don't see a average Anakin using them, they are more unique. Sometimes limited to a “one copy edition”.
- Blue: Blue lightsabers are commonly associated with Jedi Guardians, who prioritize combat and defense. Characters like Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi wielded blue lightsabers. It's often seen as a symbol of the Jedi Order's commitment to peace and justice.
- Green: Green lightsabers are often used by Jedi Consulars, who focus on wisdom, diplomacy, and mastery of the Force. Jedi like Yoda and Luke Skywalker are known for their green lightsabers. The color might signify a deeper connection to the Force and a more diverse range of Force abilities.
- Red: Red lightsabers are primarily linked to Sith and Dark Side users, indicating their corruption and embrace of the dark side of the Force. Sith often use synthetic red crystals or bleed existing crystals to create the red hue.
- Purple: As mentioned earlier, Mace Windu's purple lightsaber is an exception and is not officially explained in detail. Some interpretations suggest that it represents his unique and complex connection to the Force.
- Yellow/Gold: Yellow or gold lightsabers have been associated with Jedi Sentinels, who are skilled in a combination of combat and knowledge-based pursuits. However, in canon, the yellow color's meaning isn't as extensively defined as blue or green.
- Orange: This is one of the newest additions of lightsaber colors. They are wielded by the mysterious villains Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati. This color is historically more connected to Sidh. It's also one of the possible choices in the newest Star Wars games.
- White: In the "Star Wars Rebels" TV show, Ahsoka Tano's lightsabers turn white after she purifies red Sith crystals. This could symbolize her transition from being a Jedi to a Force-sensitive individual who doesn't conform to traditional Jedi or Sith affiliations.
- Black (Darksaber): The Darksaber is a unique black-bladed lightsaber that has significant cultural and historical importance to Mandalorians. It's a symbol of leadership and has been wielded by various characters in both canon and non-canon materials.
My Lightsaber Color Test
If you could uproot your life and become anyone you want in Star wars, who would you be? A thrill-seeking assassin? An adventurous Mandalorian? A senate member? Or an honourable Jedi?
The roles are truly unlimited. Provided you feel the Force and have a lightsaber. You can join the Sidh! And visit a Death Star! I've heard the dark side has some cookies.
